Sometimes life really sucks. Like really sucks.
I’ve been there. There are times when I feel like absolutely nothing is going my way and I can’t do anything right. As much as I hate to admit it, during these times I begin to lose my faith in God and what He has planned for my life.
I call those times the low seasons. We all have them. No matter how hard we try to be happy and positive, sometimes we end up throwing ourselves a giant pity party.
But then we have up seasons. Sometimes it only takes one pivotal event to change the season that we’re in. Most of the time, we can’t even see it coming, but when it happens, it’s obvious.
As humans, it’s natural for us to wish that life were easy the entire time with no ups or downs. We get tired of taking nosedives as soon as we feel like we have everything figured out. Unfortunately, we don’t get everything we want. Our lives are constantly changing, and we’re constantly switching between feeling completely comfortable to completely uncomfortable with where we’re at.
The thing is, God has a lot of twists and turns planned for us. If we listen to what He has to say, it’ll all work out in the end. When we’re in those low seasons, it’s important to trust His timing and that he has a reason for them.
Besides, if it weren’t for all of the rough patches, how would we be able to see how beautiful life is when it’s going well?
When I look back on some of the times when things didn’t work out exactly the way I wanted them to, I realize my way wasn’t the right way. If you get your hopes up and your plans end up falling through, God is just keeping you away from something that would steer you off the path you’re supposed to be on.
No matter how much it seems like life knocks you down, remember that you’ll get out of it eventually. God tends to give us more than we can handle, and that’s exactly why we have to lean on Him for help.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding:
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
