The sun and the time aligned, almost in perfect harmony. With every tick of the clock, the sun would shimmy into the sky a little higher each time. This went on for several hours until the sun reached it's maximum height and shone high, embracing every living being below it. Today is like any other day, except it’s shifted, different. Everyone has been drawn to the outdoors to embrace the beauty that is at hand.
As I sit here, I notice the powerful gleam of light reflecting off the water before me, and instead of it being absorbed into the water, the deep-frozen abyss, it bounces off and pierces my iris’s with it’s reluctant yet exotic shine. My legs begin to stick to the cedar bench below me, the sun is that so powerful today, here on this warm February day. But I don’t mind because the warmth from the sun spiraled into a cool breeze that creates the most content temperature. One that you could sit outside for hours and need nothing but a t-shirt and shorts.
In front of me, a friend. A friend who mirrors my likes and dislikes so that life is never boring when they’re around. We sit here in a comfortable silence, listening to the wind tunnel through our ears, the birds sing their songs of the spring. The world is whole. Everything seems to have woken up today. The insects crawling in the crumbling soil have burrowed their way out and into the sun, the squirrels have lost their fear of the painful winter air and found comfort in the awakening spring air. And the people, the people have turned over a new leaf, a lighter leaf where life doesn't seem so bad after all. They are scattered around, looking up from their phones, listening, experiencing life to the fullest of what it truly is. That's what this world needed, a little spring awakening. And many, including myself, often forget just how precious our world is and how much it has to offer. We search for happiness in pits of despair and expect it to be there when we want it, while we are offered it on days like today. We should stop expecting things to happen, and start appreciating things when they are given to us.
