Within three weeks of the second season premiere date, "13 Reasons Why" has already been confirmed for filming its third season. I think this is completely unnecessary. Season one was about Hannah's suicide, and season two was the aftermath of it all, as well as her best friend, Clay Jensen finally being able to let her go. Since there is no longer a story to be told about Hannah, I think that a third season is just a way to keep milking the series and giving everyone a needless paycheck, since there is no more of a story that needs to be told.
Katherine Langford, the actress who plays Hannah Baker, revealed that she won't even be a part of the show anymore within however many seasons it continues to produce. She's the smart one here, in my opinion, she knows to jump ship before it crashes completely. In creating a third season, I guess the producers want to go more in-depth with the other characters, but personally, the only huge storyline left behind was Tyler's. *Spoiler Alert* – Tyler almost engages in a school shooting in the season two finale, but is stopped by his friends. Now, I don't know about you, but I'm not sure I could sit through an entire season just based on Tyler's story. At least with the first two seasons, you had a range of characters and point of views. I can also see the writers going more in-depth with Justin's story, about his mom's crazed drugged out boyfriend wanting revenge on all the money Justin stole, or how Justin gets clean, but again, how do they plan on writing an entire season based on secondary characters? Not sure.
They should've stopped while they were ahead.
Season two was pushing it, honestly. I see the essential in telling the story of the aftermath of a person's suicide, and telling the story about the court case, and how kids will do anything to save their own asses instead of telling the truth; because that happens in real life. The show came to a good closure scene with the season two finale, when Clay and his friends were standing in the gym listening to "The Night We Met" (the song that he and Hannah danced too). It was a nice way to bring closure to the group and keep a remembrance of Hannah Baker alive.
All in all, I don't think that the third season of "13 Reasons Why" is necessary at all. But of course, I'll most likely tune in and watch to see what the fuss is about. I just hope they don't continue to drag out this show and completely ruin it. Hopefully, it stops after season three, even though it should've stopped after season two. Some may even argue that it could've stopped after the first season. We'll see what Netflix produces this time around.
