Searching For Purpose

Dreams don't work unless you do

Searching For Purpose
WallPaperCave

Are you searching for purpose?
Then write something, yeah it might be worthless
Then paint something then, it might be wordless
Pointless curses, nonsense verses
You'll see purpose start to surface
No one else is dealing with your demons
Meaning maybe defeating them
Could be the beginning of your meaning, friend.

Said best in the lyrics of the song Kitchen Sink by Twenty One Pilots, purpose is found in being yourself and doing what you love. Even if no one else sees the value in what you are writing, drawing, or working towards, you can see its worth. No one else lives the life you are living and no one understands the way you are feeling. But it is all part of the greater plan for your life and your purpose.

No one saw the value that Walt Disney saw in creating a theme park where cartoon characters come to life. He envisioned a magical theme park bursting with imagination and excitement. But the people who were needed to finance the park were not seeing the immense success that Disneyland would create. For a time, it seemed as if he could never convince people to finance his project. With what little money he had, he bought a cheap piece of land in Anaheim, California and began the construction of one of the most successful theme parks of all time.

Your purpose may not be as famous as Walt Disney's, but the concept is the same. Walt Disney followed his dreams and did what he loved. Even when he faced adversity and he could not get people to see eye to eye with him, he made his dream a reality. With a limited budget he made millions of children's' dreams come true. He wasn't chasing money and fame, he was chasing his dream. There were many bumps in the road on this project and not everything turned out the way it was planned, but Walt Disney found one of his purposes and made his magical kingdom a reality.

You do not need everyone to support you for you to follow your passion and dreams. You need to do what you love and your purpose will reveal itself. Your purpose is unique so not everyone is going to see it the way you do. Like Walt Disney, you need to fight for your dreams in order to make them a reality. The journey will be full of imperfections, but that is how you learn and grow as a person. Following your heart will reveal the great purpose that God has for your life.

No, it's not easy, but nothing that is great had an easy start. I don't know what your purpose is; I don't even know what my purpose is. But all we can do is follow our dreams and avoid chasing after money and fame. Through this, purpose will begin to shine through, and as we grow older and overcome the bumps on our journey, we will find what we are truly made for.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever.
