SDSU Meal Plan: Revamped

The amount of new restaurants on the meal plan this year will blow your mind.

SDSU Meal Plan: Revamped

I can guarantee I’m not the only SDSU student who would kill to have come to State and been a freshman this year instead of the year they came!

Incoming freshmen this year have gotten really lucky. First Zura closes down for renovations, giving them a much less likely chance to end up in a miserable, run down residence hall. Then Granada on Hardy, one of the nicest apartment complexes near campus, gets turned into freshmen dorms. Now SDSU opens tons of new restaurants, and of course, all of them get added to the freshmen’s meal plan.

Last year, University Towers Kitchen opened up. It was the first of many additions to the meal plan and let me tell you, it was a great one. Not only did it finally give the residents of UT a close place to eat, but it also gave the other freshmen an option other than fast food or Cuic. It’s gourmet food got everyone’s mouths watering and made them wish they lived in UT more than they already had before. UTK, while farther from campus than some would like, gave freshmen an option to eat healthier. Why couldn’t they have opened it when they opened UT?

The new Student Union finally opened last semester and along with it came the Habit. A burger place almost as good as In N’ Out with shakes and ice cream cones too? It’s almost always packed during the year, but it’s definitely well worth the wait. Freshmen last year got really lucky to get it on their meal plan for at least a short while, but the new freshmen have it even better.

This year Oggi’s Pizza & Brewing Co. along with Bruxie Gourmet Waffle Sandwiches are new additions to campus as well as to the meal plan. Both new restaurants are on the nicer end of things and I honestly wouldn’t consider either of them fast food. Oggi’s offers much more than just their pizza, which is already a step up from a lot of the food places on campus, and Bruxie is known for its fabulous waffles. I mean come on, it has “gourmet” in its name! Cuic used to be one of the only real breakfasts you could get with the meal plan, if you could even call it that, but now freshmen can go get an actual nice breakfast. Why must they do this to us?

Now word has finally gotten out that there is another new addition coming soon to the meal plan. The old Chipotle location near the trolley station is being renovated into a Denny’s. Yes, a Denny’s. How perfect would it be to have a restaurant, open 24 hours a day, on the meal plan? No other meal plan restaurant has been open all night! Denny’s is the perfect meal for late night cravings or all-nighters during finals.

The new additions to the meal plan have all our mouths watering, wishing we could go back and relive the freshmen meal plan life. Well done SDSU, you have successfully made all your students jealous. Thanks a lot.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
