Research has shown that people who write down the things they're thankful for each day tend to be happier. I know over the past few weeks, I have written about being strong and keeping a smile on your face, but I have learned a lot this summer, and I wanted to share that with my readers. So without further ado, I give you 10 things that you should be thankful for (and remind yourself of each day).
- The roof over your head. There are hundreds of thousands of people all over the world who are homeless and sleep on the streets each night.
- For the food you eat, and the drinks you drink. Again, there are people all over the world who haven't had a proper meal in days, and don't have clean water to drink. Be thankful that you do when you sit down at the table each day.
- For the clothes on your back. They keep you warm and dry (and looking damn fabulous).
- For your family. They are the ones that have seen you at your best and at your worst, and have loved you through it all.
- For your friends. They are your support system, and are there to listen to you rant at three in the morning after a rough night out.
- For the opportunity to get an excellent education. There are thousands of people who would do just about anything to get the education we are so lucky to be getting. Do not take this opportunity for granted.
- For your professors. They really do want you to succeed, and try their best to help you achieve your goals.
- For your pets. They love you unconditionally, and are always there to give you kisses and cuddles when you're upset.
- For art. Any form of art... music, design, media, film... If it brings a smile to your face, and makes you happy, then that is something to be thankful for.
- For your parents. This one is very important. They sacrifice so much for you to live a happy, healthy, safe life. They would risk their life if it meant saving yours. They love you more than anyone in the world, and I didn't realize how thankful I truly am for my parents until I went to college and they weren't with me every day.
So, mom... dad... if you're reading this... thank you. For everything. I can never repay you. I hope I make you proud.
So remember, you are truly #blessed. Be thankful for the amazing, and even little, things in life. And also remember this... someone is very thankful for you too.
