As Christians, we still go through hardships just like anyone else. We go through heartbreak. We feel alone and empty. We struggle too. I have found that when I am feeling at my low, scripture helps to read but so do worship songs. I just have to read the scripture and say it over and over again to myself and turn on the songs while I continue with whatever I am doing for the day.

When You Feel Alone

Scripture: Deuteronomy 31:6 - "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you or forsake you."

Song: "I Am Not Alone" by Kari Jobe

When Your Heart is Broke

Scripture: Psalm 34:18 - "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." and Psalm 147:3 - "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

Song: "Tell Your Heart to Beat Again" by Danny Gokey

When You Need Rest

Scripture: Matthew 11:2-30 - "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Jeremiah 31:25 - "I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint."

Song: "Breathe" by Jonny Diaz

When You Feel Like You Don't Have A Purpose

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:2 - "....who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance."

Ephesians 1:11 - "In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will...."

Song: "Thy Will" by Hillary Scott & The Scott Family

When You Feel Unloved

Scripture: John 15:13 - "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends."

Song: "Reckless Love" by Cory Asbury

Music has always helped me when I was feeling low. I used to have a playlist on my iPod Nano when I was in middle school and high school that when I was feeling down, I would put in my earphones and put my playlist on Shuffle and Repeat All. On the bus ride home or walking to class, I could listen to the words of the songs envelope me and make me feel like I am not the only one feeling like this.

These songs listed here do the same for me. But, they remind me that there is someone greater than I and he has complete control over my life and he knows what is right for me even when I don't. He loves me even when I don't love myself or when I feel like no one loves me.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
