If you follow me on any social media, you know that I have been OBSESSED with a T.V series called “Scream.” The series is based off of the ‘Scream” horror movies that were aired 1996-2011.
The series starts off with a scandalous Youtube video that got posted of one of the main characters of the show, Audrey Jenson. Shortly after, one of the most popular and pretentious students gets murdered. This brings a group of students together who probably wouldn’t have crossed paths any other way. The group includes but is not limited to Audrey Jenson, Emma Duval, Noah Foster, Kieran Wilcox, Jake Fitzgerald, and Brooke Maddox. They later begin to call each other “the Lakewood six.” The one murder that starts off the series is followed by various other gruesome deaths. To make it worse, one of the Lakewood six, Emma Duval begins to get harassed and begins to find out about the Lakewoods dark past, and how it ties to her and her family.
When I started the series, I honestly didn’t think I was going to like it. I quickly got tied in by the loveable characters and stomach dropping cliff hangers. I finished both season one and two in about six days, and now I am eagerly awaiting the halloween special and crossing my fingers that they will air a third season.
Like I said before, I fell in love with the characters. The acting was brilliantly done by very talented actors. The best part is, is that they believably play high school students. We have all seen the shows where they cast thirty year olds to play high school students, or write scripts that are mocking and full of stereotypes. The characters in this show are all genuine and all have such distinct personalities and quirks that you can’t help but love. Since I am a highschool student, I can easily put myself into their mindset. The love you have also makes you feel genuine concern and remorse for them.
The cast is also filled with wonderful people. Most people don’t go as far as looking into the actors of the shows they enjoy, but since I’m in theatre I find myself always researching the people behind the work I admire. The entire cast is witty, hilarious, and humble. There is an after show called “Scream After Dark” that I highly recommend watching. I thought that it would be similar to The Walking Dead's after show where they actually sit down and discuss the contents of the episode. It’s quite the opposite. It is full of hilarious interviews and skit-like segments performed by the cast. I can honestly say that the after show has had me in tears from laughing so hard, and it’s quite refreshing after watching something so dark and gory. You can tell on the after show and on their social media that the cast all love each other. The best friend relationship is both on and off stage, and it is the most adorable thing.
I mean come on, how could you not love them.
It is also brilliantly written. The character development is nothing short of wonderful. You’re also always on the edge of your seat. I am usually able to figure out the culprit in other murder mystery crime shows. This show stacks a good amount of evidence on every single character, so it’s very difficult to figure out who is actually guilty. They place tons of really subtle foreshadowing clues throughout that you have to pay very close attention to catch. You’ll think that you have it figured out, then another clue will be revealed and you will be completely in the dark again.
So, if you’re looking for a quality show that will keep you on your toes, I highly recommend “Scream the Series.” It is on Netflix, and what better time than the upcoming Halloween season to watch a show like this!
