Up until recently, anybody talking about "Scream" probably would have been talking about the movie series that was popular in the late 1990s. Starring Courtney Cox and her now ex-husband David Arquette, these movies were about a masked murderer running around killing off people and friends throughout the movie. Now though, people talking about "Scream" might be talking about the popular new TV series airing on MTV now.
Before being introduced to this new show by my boyfriend, I knew nothing about it. I was not even that big a fan of the movies before this so the show was not even a blip on my radar. Boy did I not know what I was missing, and am glad this show is now a weekly thing for me.
"Scream" the TV show is based in a small town where many years back a mass murderer called, Brandon James, targeted many students that made the mistake of making fun of him his entire life. The only survivors from this ordeal happen to be the parents of our present main character, Emma. Now somebody is going around wearing the same mask Brandon James wore and murdering kids in Emma's circle of friends, as well as some other adults around town.
Throughout the first season, these murders take place almost every episode. Now this at first seemed like it was going to be a problem. Killing off people every episode wouldn't make for a good series now, would it? But I was totally wrong. The show managed to kill off a good amount of people as well as keep the suspense going without killing people as well. By the end of the first season, many were dead but many were alive, too.
I like this series for a lot of reasons. I am a forever long horror fan, I spend hours watching horror movies, true crime tv shows, and suspenseful tv series as well. So you can imagine my surprise to see a tv show based off of a popular slasher film series turn out so well. Not only do the producers make this interesting, they incorporate the relationships between the cast members memorable and tuning in to see our favorite characters every week makes the show that much more desirable.
The show is now well into its second season and there are no signs of it getting boring or loosing its spunk. People are not dying as often, but the suspense of who the next to die will be is enough to make viewers tune in every week. The more I watch the more I feel the need to tune into the next episode. The cliff hangers the show leaves us on each week are incredible, and I cannot help but want more!
