In light of Scotty McCreery's recent performance at SUU, I thought I would take some time to talk about his career. And of course, in looking into McCreery, I couldn't help but think about Hunter Hayes. There are a lot of similarities between these two artists and I'm not just talking about how cute they both are.
Hayes began his official career in country music as a songwriter, helping artists and groups like Rascal Flatts. In September 2010, he signed on with Atlantic Records and began his career as a vocalist. Hayes has opened for many big names in country, including Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. His debut album, "Hunter Hayes," was certified platinum in 2013 and contains the single "Wanted," a song that made Hayes the youngest male to ever top the Billboard Hot Country Songs. Not to mention the top of every wedding playlist for country girls worldwide. Hayes has two official albums, "Hunter Hayes" and "Storyline," with another record, "The 21 Project,"released at the end of last year. His top songs include "Wanted," "Somebody's Heartbreak," and "I Want Crazy."
McCreery started his career a little differently. Many of us remember his time on American Idol, season 10. He auditioned in Milwaukee at age 16, and went on to win the competition. His debut album, "Clear as Day," was released in 2011 and has been certified platinum. The album has two top 20 songs, "I Love You This Big," and "The Trouble With Girls." I wouldn't be surprised if those are also in the top 20 on wedding song. McCreery also has three albums, including one dedicated to Christmas. "See You Tonight," a single from his third record, was his first single ever to read the top ten on Billboard's country charts. McCreery is currently working on his fourth album, which will be released later this year.
As far as credentials, these artists are neck and neck. Hunter Hayes has more nominations and chart toppers than McCreery, but McCreery won American Idol, and will have more albums released after his fourth is released. It's difficult to place one artist above the other, and as a die-hard country girl myself, I would say it's like trying to choose your favorite child. Take a look at some of their work and you'll see what I mean.
I hope this helps you make up your mind. I'm resigned to just loving them both.
