It's Saturday the eighth and it's the first home football game of the season. Officially, the season has started! Take it from me, I'm hyped. Now football season, or just sports in general, are a big thing here at Boise State, especially if you're in the Corral. Now for those of you who don't know, the Corral is in the giant student section you usually see at football, basketball and volleyball games. We're the ones who reserve and dominate the front few rows, screaming and yelling with war paint on our faces. Not the most enjoyable if you are more of the quiet type. The most dedicated of students make up the Corral, and when it comes to sporting events and most of us, especially the upperclassmen, go all out. Losing your voice is pretty much required for most games.
I didn't come from a high school that had a football team or a big sports program. We were basically the nerd school. I never had a pep rally or a homecoming game or dance; I didn't go to football games and crazy high school parties. When deciding on a college, I knew that I needed a big student section to rally in, or I would never be able to fulfill my desire to cheer with my fellow students. So going to a college where there are over 20 thousand people, D1 sports and obviously parties, we're going to be new to me and yet, didn't scare me one bit.
Joining the Corral was the perfect way to get out all the pent up energy that I never got to release in high school, along with being able to meet new people who are as passionate about sports as I am. I may not be able to lose my voice at football games with the other thousands of people in the stadium or in the arena, but I will most definitely be in that front row with blue and orange war paint on, ready to yell and scream at the other team until my throat burns and my chest aches from lack of air. Student section 101 people, it's where my pent up school spirit gets to be released from its cage and run free.
