Well, it's happened again, folks. Another school shooting in the United States, leaving 2 dead and 18 more injured.
Are we really surprised, though? It was bound to happen. No matter how many people die – women, men, and children – nothing significant seems to happen in response.
No matter how many lives are lost, no matter how many families and communities are left in awful pain, nothing is done about it.
Stop whining about your gun rights. Stop crying about wanting the freedom to own seven different types of firearms and wanting to go hunting and salivating over open carry. Look at what is happening in front of your face instead of turning away and trying to defend guns.
Are material objects more important than people's lives? Is your love of hunting more valuable to you than a child's ability to grow up and live a long, happy life?
As a gun owner, or gun enthusiast, or gun-whatever, you should be the most aware of and sensitive to such incidents. Your immediate response to a school/mass shooting shouldn't be, "Oh, gee, that's awful... BUT STAY AWAY FROM MY GUNS, UNCLE SAM!" It's more than embarrassing – it's disgustingly shameful.
I mean, Jesus, it's barely the end of January and there have already been 12 mass shootings on school grounds. What is the deal with that?
Not enough security in the area, sure. Mental illness, sure. But those two things can't cause as much harm as the individual's possession of and intent to use a firearm to kill other people.
Let's all wake up from our cozy dreamlands, rub our sleepy eyes, and take a good look at what has been happening in our country. Nobody is safe from a person with a gun and deadly ambitions.
