Who would have ever imagined that tan skin, an ice cold drink on the beach, and yes, even the oh, so wonderful home cooked meal could seem so unappealing? Don't get me wrong, it's nice to see the family and catch up with old friends but I can't seem to get rid of the feeling that something is missing.
Those late nights at the library you dreaded all year, the nights you were locked out of your dorm because you forgot a key, the weight you gained from discovering the magic of dining dollars at 4 am (because yes, sadly, the freshman 15 is a real thing), and all of the other situations or stresses you use to dread, start to find a special place in your heart. Not because getting locked out is fun or because you have a new appreciation for your love handles, but because of the people who were there along the way; your best friends. They're the people who will forgive you for ruining their favorite top (only because you probably ruined one of theirs too), give you a shoulder (or should I say pizza?) to cry on, stay up and adventure with you at absurd hours in the night (heels may or may not be in hand), inspire you to become the best that you can possibly be, and most importantly leave you with memories to fill your heart with so much laughter that you forget about all of the hard times life can bring.
So let's face it, all of the appealing things that use to make you long for summer, soon start to feel incomplete because an important part of you is missing. After a short, fast-lived freshmen year, you end up meeting some of the best people you'll ever know and as cheesy as this may sound, they end up becoming your best friends. So to all of you freshmen out there, don't be scared to branch out, take chances, and talk to the girl you meet on the bus during rush. One day you'll look back and thank yourself because before you know it, you just met your sisters, besties, and probably your bridesmaids. Make sure to take in every moment you have with these people because it's a long three months without them :')
In other words, School rules, summer drools!
