School of Journalism and Graphic Design event Grads Are Back

An engaging evening of poetry, songs and spoken word, Voices Poetry Group were featured hosts in the School of Journalism’s Grads Are Back. The first performance of the night was by Miami Artist Optimoe featuring Noko performing their song “What I need.”

“Voices Poetry Group is thankful to be the featured host for Grads Are Back, “Mic Check 1,2 Event. Our purpose is to speak uplift and vibe, also imparting something in each person we encounter.,” said Graduate student Simone Grier, Leader of Voices “In the future, I wish to see more support from the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication students and terms of preparation and participation.”

Host Daniel Joseph did a stellar job keeping the audience engaged and laughing. The night went on to present powerful poetry from and Jabari Capers and soothing music from songstress SaintLee. Other participants in Open Mic include: Kenny Elijah, JeMaris Warren, Amanda Stephens, Christian Singletary and Christopher Watson.

“Voices Poetry Group Is the first spoken word and poetry organization on FAMU's campus and we take pride in catering to the needs of the students and our neighborhood community. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to be the Featured Host for The School of Journalism's 2016 Grads are Back Open Mic. As poets, we dedicate our words to uplifting the community as our motto is to "Speak, Vibe and Uplift." Voices Poetry Group would like to Thank all who joined and participated in the event, and we encourage everyone to continue to allow their Voice to be Heard!” President Tatjana Lightbourn told Journey Magazine.

Drop the Mic was a night of passion, exposure and artistic vibes as artist exchanged their talents on Florida A&M campus. An event you didn’t want to miss.
