The Back To School Essentials For The Fairfield Girl

Although we may not all want to accept it, summer is coming to a close. How did it go by so fast? While we are soaking in the final few weeks of summer, it is time to start thinking about back to school shopping! At least if we have to go back to school, we can get a few nice things to make it easier! Fairfield girls are known for being stylish and having specific, similar items. So there are some essentials that every Fairfield girl needs for this season.

1. Lilly Pulitzer Agenda

If you go to Club Dimenna, you are bound to see dozens of these! It is perfect for keeping track of assignments, long term projects and other miscellaneous notes you will have to put down somewhere quickly over the school year.

2. An ID Case

This is important for keeping track of that all important Stag Card. In an effort to save money by not losing your Stag Card, an ID Case is the way to go. Vera Bradley makes super cute ones too.

3. A Yoga Mat

Although it may seem unconventional, you will be surprised how much use you get from a yoga mat. For those days you don't want to go to the gym or need a little relaxation through meditation, a yoga mat is the perfect solution.

4. Rain Boots

Any returning Stag will know how much of an essential these are. They will help you trudge all over campus for classes in the rain, sleet and even snow.

5. A Tumbler

These are a must for bringing coffee to class or those Point Days filled with sunshine in the fall semester. A must for all Fairfield girls.

6. A Cute Beach Towel

Speaking of Point Days, one of the best things about Fairfield University is being able to go to the beach during the warm weather days. Make sure you bring a towel to soak up those last few rays of sunshine.

7. A Fresh Pair Of Sunnies

Sunglasses are a must for walking around campus, going to the beach and just in life in general. Treat yourself to a nice, fresh pair for the new school year.

8. Colored Pens

These are a staple for Fairfield students. It is a quick and easy way to keep notes organized.

9. A New Pair of Sneakers

Now that the new Rec Plex is almost done, it is the perfect reason to go to the gym more. This obviously calls for a new pair of sneakers to use in all of your successful (or not so successful) gym trips.

10. Water Bottle

These are definitely a must for Fairfield University students in all aspects of life. It is much more economically friendly than buying cases of water and there are so many cute types of water bottles these days.

12. A New Backpack

Always a back to school must!

13. A Portable Phone Charger

Although it may not seem like a necessity, it will come in very handy when you're not by a phone charger for many hours.

14. An Umbrella

This is another rain essential at Fairfield. Don't be caught in a downpour without yours.

15. A Floppy Hat

These are perfect for the incoming fall weather and super fashion forward.

16. Blanket Scarves

Blanket scarves are great for the in between weather of fall and winter. These are well-loved by Fairfield girls.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
