There are many reasons why I'm so glad I decided to go to college close to home. I didn't even apply or tour other schools. I knew I was going to go to a school close to home and living an hour away wasn't an option for me. I'm way too close to my family and I love my town so much that leaving and living far away would have a negative effect on me. I have been able to create my own life at school while still coming home very often. Here are five reasons why staying close to how has been the best decision I've made and why I'm so grateful I have this choice!
1. Not missing out on what my siblings are doing
I have three sisters and they are all in sports. Being close to home allows me to go home and watch them play the sports they love. Nothing is better than them looking in the stands to see me! I am able to be with them on their birthdays! I get to go and watch them graduate eighth grade, participate in the Spelling B, banquets and so much more!
2. I can see my parents whenever I want!
I have the best parents ever! I can go see my dad and step-mom anytime I want to! I can go down to their house and go for a ranger ride or just a small bite to eat at the local bar.
I can also go to my mom's house whenever I want! I'm able to go grocery shopping with her or just sit around the house and watch TV and laugh!
3. My car
I have had many times when things went wrong with my car that I would not have survived without my dad! He has done countless oil changes for me to save money, fixed many flat tires and taken my car to shop to get it looked at to fix leaks that I had!
4. I know so much about the town I live in
The school I go to is in a town I am very familiar with. I have been there almost every other weekend since I can ever remember. I know where everything is and that makes moving away so much easier. I didn't feel completely lost!
5. Keeping my job
My job is actually in the town I go to school in. I have had the job since I was a junior in high school. When moving to school I was able to keep my job and to keep working! My friends worried about getting a job and I was lucky enough to already have one!
