School Administration Logic: Money Comes Before Students

Shouldn't school want to promote your health instead of punishing you for not showing up?

I was recently told that you must have a certain attendance in high school to attend prom. One of my friend's sister informed me that in order to go to prom, your attendance must be 90% or higher for the entire year.

First of all, that dumbfounded me. My attendance was a solid 60% during my senior year of high school. High school is not for everyone. Some people just do not have the courage to show up, whether it be they are being bullied or simply because they do not feel mentally prepared for the day. That was my situation. My depression was at an all-time low during my senior year of high school. Hence why I never went.

Second, why are they taking away prom for lack of showing up? Shouldn't they contact parents? Why would someone want to take away the one time in a girl's life where she fully feels beautiful and important?

I asked my friend's sister why attendance is even a big deal. I feel like as long as you are communicating with your teachers and turning in your homework on time, everything should be fine.

NOPE.

She told me that the school is funded annually by the state depending on attendance rates during the school year.

Hold the phone. You're telling me that a place that is supposed to feel safe and positive ONLY wants you at school so they can get MORE money? No wonder no one wants to go to school. Do they even care if you're healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally? By the looks of it, they don't.

I'm not saying that teachers don't care, because I know they do. I have had teachers that went above and beyond for me when they didn't need to.

I'm straight calling out school administration and the higher up people.

Who put you in charge and why did you choose a profession that allows you to work with the youth when you couldn't give two fucks about their well-being? This needs to be changed, no matter the circumstances.

Schools need to start putting their students first. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.
