With my alarm going off at 5:00 AM, I wake up with terrible sleepy eyes, but I’m not mad about it. In fact, it’s one the very few occasions where I wake up excited, anticipating one of the greatest events in Indiana: the Indy 500.
Having a successful race day is not hard to do. In fact, getting to be in the presence of fast cars and friendly faces is more than enough. But getting to really experience the Indy 500 means to enjoy all aspects. And how do you do that? Well, here is my morning schedule to prepare for a full day of fun at the race track.
5:00AM: Wake up. Make sure to go to bed early the night before so you’re not yawning the entirety of the day. The Indy 500 requires the most of your energy.
5:30AM: You finally got out of bed, good for you. Now, time to get in that bathroom and wash up. Put on some makeup, throw on your best America-themed clothing (usually the popular choice, especially in the Snake Pit).
6:00AM: Eat some breakfast. Let’s face the facts here, there is a lot of drinking involved with the Indy 500. If you’re over 21-years-old, you should know the dangers of drinking on an empty stomach. Even if you’re underage and not drinking, you should probably still eat.
6:15AM: Pack whatever you need. Water bottles are key to surviving the Indy 500. The end of May always calls for hot and humid weather, especially when surrounded by thousands of people. Sunscreen and sunglasses are other important items to have in your possession for race day.
6:30AM: Head out of the house. If you don’t live close to Speedway, Indiana, then this is probably much different for you. In fact, if you’re not even going to Snake Pit (which I highly suggest to get the full experience), you may be able to get away with pushing back your schedule a few hours.
7:00AM: Scan in your tickets, and meet up with some friends, and enjoy the great day you have ahead of you!
