Watching scary movies is a pastime for many Americans, especially around October. Personally, I don't like scary movies because I always think I am going to be the next victim—bye bye, sleep. Many of these scary movies are just products of an overly disturbed imagination, but some of these movies are based on true experiences and occurrences that have happened. Here are five of these spooky movies:
1. "The Exorcist"
This cult classic is based on the actual story of a boy, whose pseudonym name is Roland Doe, possessed by demons in 1949. His story became so big it was on the cover of many newspapers.
2. "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"
This movie is loosely based on the serial killer Ed Gein, who killed his victims and made furniture and knick-knacks out of their bones and skin. He made candles out of head skulls and lamp shades out of human skin. Terrifying.
3. "The Amityville Horror"
The horrific slaughtering of a family on Nov. 13, 1974, by Ronald DeFeo Jr. and the story of the Lutz family who moved in 13 months after inspired this widely famous movie.
4. "The Strangers"
This movie is based on the Charles Manson murders coupled with events that occurred during the director's childhood. The scariest part of this movie? (warning: spoiler) The fact that these people were randomly tortured and murdered just because they were home.
5. "The Conjuring"
Ed and Loraine Warren, real life paranormal investigators, dealt with a haunted farmhouse and an even scarier looking doll. This movie is based on the haunted farmhouse and the unfortunate Perron family that lived there.
Now that this list is finished, I can go hide under my sheets because I am thoroughly freaked out and scared. Happy Halloween!
