11 Scary Movies To Watch On Netflix

If you’re anything like me, you can’t help but resist the suspense of a good scary movie. Having to pay for cable, Netflix might be one of the only ways to find a way to satisfy your need for a thriller. The thing is, there are a lot of movies on Netflix, so it can be difficult to weed out the corny low-budget films from the ones that leave you on the edge of your seat. Here’s a list of some of the perfect movies to stream amidst Halloween festivities:

1. "The Blair With Project"

Even though this one starts off slowly (in my opinion), "The Blair Witch Project" is still a cult-classic that quickly progresses. When a group of students ventures out into the Maryland woods to test the authenticity of an eerie myth, will they make it out alive?

2. "The Nightmare Before Christmas"

While some have a hard time figuring out whether it is better to watch this film closer to Halloween or Christmas, there’s no denying that this is a perfect film for a dismal autumn afternoon. If you’re looking for a movie that’s less creepy but still chock-full of the Halloween spirit, this is for you. A Tim Burton animation, there’s no better way to really gear up for Halloween than with this musical classic.

3. "The Village"

M. Night Shyamalan tends to direct darker movies with a twist, and he certainly doesn’t disappoint with this one. "The Village" is captivating with a series of surprises, leaving you to wonder who the real antagonist is (and what year it actually takes place, honestly).

4. "You're Next"

It can often be challenging to find a "slasher" film that isn’t too gory or cheesy, but "You're Next" is a winner. After keeping you on your toes throughout the duration of the film, the ending will leave you shocked.

5. "Interview with the Vampire"

Based on the book by Anne Rice, this classic takes on the 18th-century world of vampires. Starring a young Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Kirsten Dunst each playing a vampire, this all-star-cast film makes for an irresistible watch.

6. "Scream"

Even though some of the scenes have a tendency to be a bit tacky in this timeless pick, the ending is unexpected. The first, second and third movies of the "Scream" trilogy are on Netflix, while the fourth (and the best, in my opinion) is available for streaming through Amazon and other sources.

7. "Grave Encounters"

If you like creepy insane asylum movies, you’re in luck! Both "Grave Encounters" and "Grace Encounters 2" are currently streaming on Netflix. A team of paranormal investigators decides to investigate an abandoned asylum, but will they be able to find their way back out?

8. "Saw"

I tended to stay away from the six "Saw" movies because of how the trailers made them look. A few months ago, I decided to give them a try, and I can’t say that I regret it. Even though they’re notorious for a certain “horror effect,” they lean more towards the mind-bending aspect. The first four movies of the series are on Netflix, and each one will leave you putting the pieces together until the credits begin to roll.

9. "Sleepy Hollow"

Based off the Washington Irving Tale, this haunting film takes place in the 1700s and has a very grim vibe. Starring a young Johnny Depp (yes, please!) and directed by Tim Burton, it’s sure to send chills down your spine.

10. "The Taking of Deborah Logan"

I have to admit that the cover picture for this movie threw me off at first when I was scrolling through my Netflix feed. I decided to give it a chance one lazy Sunday afternoon, and I’m more than happy that I did. The movie follows a woman who has fallen ill to Alzheimer’s disease, but there is a source of something much more sinister in her home.

11. "Oculus"

A more recent film, "Oculus" has some mixed reviews. The best way to describe this movie that it's a mixture of both "Poltergeist" and "Inception." Compiled of both present-day scenes and flashbacks, a key component is figuring out if the characters are actually experiencing horrors inside of their childhood home or not.

Of course, there are a lot of other spooky Netflix picks besides these 11. If you have the time, try watching a few of these before you go to sleep at night, if you dare!

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
