The Scariest Moment Of My Life

You can't tell me that God isn't real when I am living proof that he is.

The Scariest Moment Of My Life
Sydney Phillips

On Thursday afternoon, I headed home from MTSU for Christmas break. I had my car packed full of stuff from my dorm, since I was moving out of it. I had been driving for around 40 minutes of my 4 hour drive home when something terrible happened.

A Snyder semi-truck turned his signal light on and merged over into my lane without checking his blind spot or even paying attention. I had no choice but to either run into the median or get hit by the truck. I swerved into the median. The median dipped down, and I hit a drain going about 70 mph while hitting the brakes very hard. I went airborne. I remember that I was going to hit a sign in the median that said "Authorized vehicles only" that was about 7 or 8 feet or so off the ground. I remember all my stuff starting to shift around and come forward, then I blacked out. I didn't know this until after I was out of the hospital, but I went nose down and flipped end to end two times and my car landed on the drivers side. I woke up with a nosebleed, and I was trapped against the side of my car. My stuff was pinning me down. I tried to move my things off of me so I could get out of the car. I knew that nothing was wrong with me, and I wasn't in much pain besides soreness. I said "Please, God, help me" over and over again. Then the passenger door opened, and a state trooper by the name of Eric McCormick asked if I was alright. I told him and several other men that had stopped to help that I was fine, I just couldn't move. They moved my things off of me and held the passenger door open so I could climb out of the car.

I walked away from this wreck completely unharmed. I am alive and well. I have no broken bones and not a single scratch on my body. I have some bruises from the seatbelt, but that's it. The state trooper told me that the seatbelt saved my life, which is definitely true. However, I know what really saved my life was The Lord. It's a miracle that I'm alive right now, and it's also a miracle that I'm completely unhurt. I know that God has a plan for me. I know that God was working in my life even when I was young and made sure that all of my friends and their parents had seatbelts on before the vehicle went into motion. Yes, that's good parenting paying off, but I believe God had a plan for me then. He made me that annoying little kid for a reason. My pestering of everyone to wear a seatbelt paid off when it became a lifelong habit. I'm alive and unharmed.

You can't tell me that God isn't real when I am living proof that he is. God saved me for a reason. I have this amazing testimony and a very blessed life. Everything I have and everything I am working towards is for The Lord and from The Lord. Yes, this was the scariest moment of my life, but I wasn't even that scared. Maybe it all happened so fast that I couldn't feel the fear. But from the moment I woke up, even though I was scared to be trapped in my car in the middle of a median on the interstate, I knew that God had protected me. I knew that God would keep me safe through the rest of that evening. I was a lot more calm than I ever thought that I would be in a situation like that. I know that The Lord works for the good of those who love him, and I knew that he was protecting me.

So first, I urge you to always wear your seatbelt. And second, but certainly not less important, if you are doubting God's faith, I urge you to see what he has done for me. If God can save my life from a terrible car accident that I was in, he can save you too. Ask me about my testimony.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.
