What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
As many people do, I have a hard time saying yes to the things that scare me -- making this question a hard one for me. It made me realize how much fear and worry play a role in my decision making process.
Would you do anything differently?
Would you go somewhere?
Have a conversation with someone?
How many opportunities do we miss out on because fear stops us from saying yes?
Whether it is to a new job, a presentation, a college -- what’s scary about saying yes isn’t saying yes itself, but the risk that comes along with it. Saying yes opens up the door to the unknown and often what we have no control over.
Getting over my fear and saying yes has led me to some of the most stretching experiences, and while often hard, it has been worth it.
I can clearly remember many moments where I have said no to something because I didn’t know what would come next.
Now, I’m learning to say no just as much as I am learning to say yes -- because knowing the line between the two is important. But we need to say yes to the things that scare us, to things that will push us out of our comfort zone and grow us. Because we don’t grow if we don’t change, and sometimes change can only happen if we say “yes.”
