Between the taste of freedom and realizing freedom tastes a lot like watery Easy Mac, moving into college is sure to bring big changes. Whether you're excited or nervous to start a new chapter of your life, there is one thing that's impossible to look forward to: saying goodbye to your dog.
Dogs are the purest of all creatures. They love unconditionally and they never judge you for watching 18 hours of Netflix in a row. They will cuddle with you for days on end, and they can always brighten up your life.
However, there comes a time in every non-commuting, college kid's life when they have to say, "See you soon!" to their furry friends. Here are some ways to make leaving your dog at home a little easier.
1. FaceTime.
Check in on your dog via FaceTime whenever you want (whenever your family members will be nice enough to assist your pup in the art of video chat). Or invest in a PetChatz so you can literally call your dog and even give him little treats all the way from your dorm.
2. Body pillows.
Body pillows are great, especially if you suddenly start missing the fact that your dog always hogs the bed. Even a twin XL mattress feels big without a puppy in it. Body pillows take up so much space that it'll be easy to recreate the uncomfortable comfort that comes with an over-cuddly ball of fur.
3. Pictures.
Look through pictures of your dog whenever you're feeling down. Show everyone pictures of your pride and joy every chance you get. If they get annoyed, you don't need that negativity in your life, go find other people to show cute puppy pics to.
4. Random dogs on the street.
Petting dogs that you see in public is a great way to get your temporary puppy-fill. Always make sure you ask before touching other people's pets. Some people are selfish and want to keep their puppies all to themselves. If you're lucky, you might even run into an actual little, baby puppy.
5. Breaks.
Remind yourself that you will see your dog on breaks. No matter how much you miss your pup during the school year, it'll all get better as soon as you're reunited. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and you may even be surprised with the amount of love your dog has saved up for your return.
