A letter to my professor...

Dear Professor,

We had the first class without you, it was weird. You had a way of lightening up the class unlike any other teacher I have had in my life. It seemed as if nothing could wipe the smile off your face or the jubilee in your spirit. We are running the class as closely to how you did it as we can, but it's not the same without you. I miss the way you would narrate the plays and add in your own theatrical sounds. We all definitely miss your singing. You made the class somewhere I, as a student, wanted to be. I actually looked forward to coming and getting to talk to you about something new. Which is something to behold because us college kids don't like to go to class.

I want to thank you for making me feel special each time you saw me, in or out of class. I will miss being 20 minutes late to my next class just so I could talk over a film or event that we both found interesting. You had a way of making me feel like I was your only student, even though you have taught thousands and impacted so many new students each semester. You took learning very seriously and I always felt like you actually cared if we were understanding the material or not.

Thank you for always making my ideas and dreams seem possible and like goals I could easily attain with a little effort. Through sharing your experiences you have opened my eyes to so many new and exciting possibilities. By taking some of your courses it was so easy for us as students to see that you loved your job. You had a passion for teaching and the subject you taught, unlike anyone I have ever met. Because of you I have gained a love for watching international films and checking the new films added on Netflix each month for the hope of an unknown German movie to watch.

You are so very missed.

Always,

A Student whose life you changed for the better

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
