Saying Goodbye To Legend David Bowie

On Sunday, the world said goodbye to David Bowie, a music legend, fashion icon and a pioneering figure in entertainment. David Bowie started his career in the late 1960s where he started singing or writing music and picked up lessons on how to play the saxophone. He was inspired by the jazz band The London West End. After his saxophone lessons, Bowie played with bands such as the Konrads, the Mannish Boys and the Lower Third.

From there, Bowie went on to singing, acting and inspiring many with his creative style and the messages from his songs. In a New York Times article, that reflected on his life it stated "Mr. Bowie wrote songs, above all, about being an outsider: an alien, a misfit, a sexual adventurer, a faraway astronaut. His music was always a mutable blend — rock, cabaret, jazz and what he called “plastic soul” — but it was suffused with genuine soul. He also captured the drama and longing of everyday life, enough to give him No. 1 pop hits like “Let’s Dance.” Other hits include "Fame" which he performed on Soul Train, "Dancing in the Street", "China Girl" and "Modern Love". Bowie's hits and contributions to music has awarded him many awards including Grammys, an Emmy award, and the MTV Michael Jackson Vanguard Video Music Award, He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. As well as Bowie's singing career, he was very much involved in acting and the arts. In the 1980s, Bowie "turned to live theater, performing in multiple cities (including a Broadway run) in the demanding title role of “The Elephant Man."

Along with his music and acting footprint, David Bowie has also been credited for his fashion sense. From spiked hair to outfits with stars and stripes to sleek hair, Bowie has indeed gone through the years with a style uniquely fit for him. He has influenced many looks from fashion designers such as Jean-Paul Gaultier, Haider Ackermann and Dries Van Noten to celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Madonna.

David Bowie continued to be an inspiration and legend in the industry until his final days. Two days before his death, David Bowie released his last album "Blackstar" on his birthday. For the album he collaborated with jazz quartet. After an 18 month battle with cancer, Steve Martin reported his death and stated that he died peacefully surrounded by his family. David Bowie, gone but not forgotten, the world will remember your music and contributions to music and fashion. We'll be "dancing in the street" to remember you.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you.
