On Sunday, the world said goodbye to David Bowie, a music legend, fashion icon and a pioneering figure in entertainment. David Bowie started his career in the late 1960s where he started singing or writing music and picked up lessons on how to play the saxophone. He was inspired by the jazz band The London West End. After his saxophone lessons, Bowie played with bands such as the Konrads, the Mannish Boys and the Lower Third.
From there, Bowie went on to singing, acting and inspiring many with his creative style and the messages from his songs. In a New York Times article, that reflected on his life it stated "Mr. Bowie wrote songs, above all, about being an outsider: an alien, a misfit, a sexual adventurer, a faraway astronaut. His music was always a mutable blend — rock, cabaret, jazz and what he called “plastic soul” — but it was suffused with genuine soul. He also captured the drama and longing of everyday life, enough to give him No. 1 pop hits like “Let’s Dance.” Other hits include "Fame" which he performed on Soul Train, "Dancing in the Street", "China Girl" and "Modern Love". Bowie's hits and contributions to music has awarded him many awards including Grammys, an Emmy award, and the MTV Michael Jackson Vanguard Video Music Award, He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. As well as Bowie's singing career, he was very much involved in acting and the arts. In the 1980s, Bowie "turned to live theater, performing in multiple cities (including a Broadway run) in the demanding title role of “The Elephant Man."
Along with his music and acting footprint, David Bowie has also been credited for his fashion sense. From spiked hair to outfits with stars and stripes to sleek hair, Bowie has indeed gone through the years with a style uniquely fit for him. David Bowie continued to be an inspiration and legend in the industry until his final days. Two days before his death, David Bowie released his last album "Blackstar" on his birthday. For the album he collaborated with jazz quartet. After an 18 month battle with cancer, Steve Martin reported his death and stated that he died peacefully surrounded by his family.
