Saying Goodbye To Derek Morgan: The Five Stages Of Grief

Baby girl. Ever since Criminal Minds' Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) uttered those words, I’ve been in love with him. His smile could brighten up a room. His voice created butterflies in my stomach. And the way he was with Garcia melted my heart.

As the show progressed, Derek changed. He still had that smooth talking charm, but he also had substance. I saw the depth his character had and what he's been through. I watched him grow from a playboy to a grown, family man. I spent nights stressing over his kidnapping. We felt pure joy and relief when his team finally found him. Derek has caused so many emotional roller coasters, but him leaving is the biggest. Here's how I handled the news:

1. Denial

This is some sick joke the Internet's playing. Whoever started this rumor should be arrested for causing so much sadness. This isn't really happening. Derek will remain on the show. It's that simple.

2. Anger

HE LEFT! He just got up and left. How could he do this to his team? How could he leave Garcia behind? He's being selfish! Hotch has a kid. JJ has a kid. They're still working. Stop messing around Derek!

3. Bargaining

For the love of God, please just stay! What if the BAU agrees to give you more vacation? That way you can still see your son and soon to be wife all the time? You'll still be in their lives while staying in mine. Everybody wins.

4. Depression

Fine. Just leave. I'll be okay, really. Don't mind me. I'll just be sitting in front of the TV eating mass amounts of chocolate missing you.

5. Acceptance

He’s gone. He really left the BAU. But this is not goodbye forever. The show already promised that he would guest star in future episodes. When that happens, I'll be patiently waiting for him to say those words. Baby girl.
