I said goodbye to my friends for the last time on Sunday. It was really hard to grapple with the fact that I will not be able to see them for months. I know that they will thrive and blossom in college and I am super excited to see what they will accomplish during this school year. You go throughout your whole school life seeing the same faces every day, talking to the same people, laughing at the same inside jokes. For example, I walked with one of my best friends, Taylor (she's in the sunflower romper), to class every day. Now, I don't get that same routine as I had in high school.
When you get to college, you will experience this, but on a much larger scale. College is like a way more exciting, yet stressful version of high school. This is extremely cathartic for me to write, especially during the same day in which I said goodbye. I was very scared going into college, thinking I was going to be alone, but it is the complete opposite. You are going to find your people. Most of my new friends are not even in the same major as I am, but that doesn't mean we don't still laugh, cry, and share new memories together. I hope to never lose contact with my friends from high school, and I hope you will not either. There's an ominous void in my heart, but, with the right people, that void will be filled.
Think about it, you will most likely see your best friend by December, that is only 100 days away (yes I am counting). The time will come in what seems way less than 100 days, but in the end, you will see them before you know it.
