Jon Bellion, the 25 year old Long Islander, currently finds himself in quite a unique position. You may not have heard his name yet, or maybe it rings a faint bell from the Grammy awards in 2015 when the song "Monster" (Eminem and Rihanna) -- which Bellion wrote the chorus for -- won for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. However, this position is one that any aspiring artist could only imagine in their wildest of dreams.
When trying to articulate this position, Elite Daily writer Greg Dybec states that, "He is floating, suspended in air somewhere between the ground and a ceiling-less sky. He currently inhabits the purgatory that exists before the type of massive fame that doesn’t allow a person to buy his own groceries anymore."
If you have not heard of Jon just yet, that is not too surprising. His songs have never featured verses from people like Drake, or Fetty Wap. In fact he still lives with his parents out on Long Island. However, he does have something in common with these famous artists that I previously stated.
His newest release, his album "The Human Condition," climbed to the number five spot on The Billboard 200 during its first week. This spot puts Bellion right behind these artists, such as Nick Jonas and Drake.
Jon Bellion is on a destined path to become a household name within the next few months. He is just now starting to perform his unique hits on major radio stations such as z100 , interview with mainstream influencers and receive Twitter praise from NBA stars and established artists such as All Time Low's member Jack Barakat, who tweeted in response to one of Bellion's song titles, "All Time Low":
Despite Jon's wild climb to stardom, "He is the same," as Jon's song title suggests. Jon’s band, Beautiful Mind, is actually a group of nine talented musicians he attended college with at Five Towns, a popular college for aspiring musicians on Long Island, before dropping out. The group of friends promised that if one were to gain popular attention they would never leave the others behind, and Jon Bellion evidently carried through on this promise.
But, how -- how through creating the chorus for the song Monster, and having very strong influence with Jason Derulo's hit song Trumpets, did Jon stay hidden for so long? Well, he actually carved out his own path to stardom and not only decided, but planned, to stay rather -- well, low key for a period of time.
He did so by convincing Capitol Records to let him release three free albums before moving forward with a major studio production. For this reason, he already has sold out two, soon to be three, national tours and has a now growing army of fans.
However don't try and say that he got to this spot on his own, for Jon, a strong believer in God, will always emphasize that this path is exactly what God had planned and wanted for him.
Now, if you are one click away from listening to and falling in love with Jon Bellion's crazy mix of music, one strange thing all new Jon Bellion fans should know is "The Pixar Thing."
When Bellion states this he is referring to his album’s intricate, fantasy-inspired artwork and sound as well. The dream, he explained to Greg Dybec, "is that someone from Pixar will see the artwork and think, 'Wait, this isn’t from one of our films.'"
Bellion admits to religiously watching and loving pixar movies such as "Finding Nemo." He hopes this could be a foot in the door to creating a Pixar movie one day.
This is Jon Bellion’s ultimate dream. Who better to be the spokesperson for the “follow your dreams and do it your own way" message preached by so many of the Disney films that shaped our childhoods than Jon Bellion? As an average girl living on Long Island, I can definitely say that he is an inspiration to me.
Bellion definitely is different indeed than many an artist out there today. From his Pixar dreams, to his background and his strong faith in God. Remember his name: Jon Bellion. You're welcome.
