"Finding Dory" is definitely more than just a kids-genre based movie. It’s a movie for all ages - especially the 90’s kids who have been waiting 10 years for a sequel to "Finding Nemo". The movie itself has been given all kinds of raving reviews – IMDB has it rated as a 7.8/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 95% rating!
But it’s not about the money this kind of movie makes or the ratings it’s given. It’s about bringing together two different generations—the kids of today who fill the seats of the movie theater, as well as the 90’s kids generations who bring with them the memories of sitting in the same kind of theater for the first installment of "Finding Dory"--together to enjoy this film from different perspectives.
"Finding Dory", even for a kids movie, is a very smart film. Not just the kind of behind the scenes digital imagery and editing that needed to be done to make the movie but also how they were able to blend scenes from "Finding Dory" to fit perfectly in succession with how certain scenes in"Finding Nemo" ended. Though I was very excited to see this movie, I definitely had my worries about it too. Sometimes you see movies like these that are sequels to a movie that has already made a name for itself and was very popular so moviemakers think it’s okay to make the sequel just like the first original movie. And though there were some similarities, such as the “finding” concept of both films (Marlin finding Nemo and Dory finding her family) there were also huge differences of the film. Such as in "Finding Nemo" how the fish are captured and put in a fish tank at a dentist office while in "Finding Dory", Dory gets captured and taken to a rehab Aquarium where fish will eventually be released. Yes, similar topics with very different outcomes, though.
The characters in each film make them very different films as well. Though Mr. Ray does make an appearance in "Finding Dory", most other characters are very different in the new film. My personal favorite being Destiny and Bailey – both characters had me dying laughing every time they appeared in the film.
Overall, the film is pretty wonderful in all sense of the term. I personally couldn’t pick out any part of the movie I didn’t like but there were so many awesome scenes I don’t think I could pick just one that I liked the most. Though the ending, that I won't spoil for those of you who haven’t seen it, definitely made me cry and that’s all I’m going to say!
If you haven’t seen "Finding Dory" yet, I 100% recommend it!
