Saving All The Dollars: Shopping At Dollar Tree

I do a majority of my shopping at the dollar store because it's the cheaper way to live!

Saving All The Dollars: Shopping At Dollar Tree
Huffington Post

Money is tight when you're a college student... living on your own... and being the main support for yourself. I try my hardest to stretch every dollar I have, but still live a ~lavish~ lifestyle. In order to do that, I do a ton of my shopping at the dollar store. I actually enjoy it way more than shopping at a superstore. So here are my top finds to get this school year off to a great start.

Dishes

It's ridiculous how much dishes actually cost. I really don't think it's necessary to pay $5-$10 for a couple plates! The dollar store has a variety of different patterns and styles, so you're not stuck with something basic and plain. No one will guess you got your stylish dish sets at the dollar store. I've bought everything from wine glasses to a cheese grater there. I promise not to blow your secret if I'm at your house.

Food

Maybe this one won't apply to everyone, but if you live alone this is so important! You and six roommates probably won't share that small box of cereal, but if you just need something to get you around to the next payday, or you just want variety, you got it. Candy, hotdogs, snack crackers, juice, bread, it's all there for you and at the very cheap price of just $1.

Cleaning products

Unless you want to buy these in bulk (but who would, let's be honest we don't clean that often) the dollar store is where I go. They aren't high end, name brands, but they work! Spic and Span is my choice multipurpose cleaner. I also pick up cleaning wipes, magic erasers, dish sponges, dish soap and bathroom cleaner.

Nail Polish (and some other products)

I used to be bias and only use OPI nail polish, but I got over that pretty quickly when I didn't want to pay $9 a bottle anymore. Dollar Tree carries a handful of decent nail polishes, as well as nail products, hair ties and a handful of things worthy of trying. Don't buy anything that goes on your face, it's probably not worth the savings if your face falls off.

Greeting Cards

I love sending "thinking of you!" cards to my friends on the reg just to make them feel appreciated (plus everyone loves getting mail).

School Supplies!

If you need things that are sold super cheap during back to school sales, the dollar store is calling your name. Grab poster boards, pens, markers, coloring books, paper, notebooks and planners. It's all there waiting for you and at a much cheaper price than Meijer.

Gifts!

Maybe it's not ideal, but doing holiday shopping at the dollar story is a great way to save money when you don't have it. I like to make gift bags of candy or little toys for all the kids in my life. Grab a picture frame and give it to your best friend with a cute photo of the two of you guys. Do a wander through the store and see what else you can come up with!

Now go out and save all the dollars.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
