Saving The Conversation From "LOL"

Debbie: OMG!!! Did you hear about Jason?????

Me: Yeah, that is so crazy. I can not believe that he broke his toe.

Debbie: I think it is kinda funny tbh :P

Me: I guess you're right.

Debbie: LOL

There it was, the dreaded "LOL". I am almost certain that I am not the only one to fall, victim to dead conversations, so I am here to offer up some tips and tricks to the "Text Gods" in hope of reviving my message threads. When your alert tone goes silent... use these methods and you will wish your text tones weren't so violent.

Option #1

When you are texting your crush, you always ask them how their day was right? Well what do you do with that information? This is my most frequented option to save a conversation. When my crush answers and tells me about their day, I save all of that information and keep it in the back of my mind. If you run out of things to talk about, bring up how cute the dog they talked about petting was.

Option #2

If their day was uneventful, ask them what there plans are/were for the day. You can then use this to you advantage by again working it into the conversation, in turn reviving the conversation.

Option #3

Don't be afraid to bring up a risqué topic, they tend to be great discussion topics and you will learn so much about the other person. Be careful to take into consideration the person you are talking to though; don't preach to the choir.

Ten Truths Every Honors Student Knows
Photo by Poodar Chu on Unsplash

One of the main reasons I came to Salem State was I was offered a spot in the honors program. While it offered many benefits, scholarships and priority registration to name a few, what drew me in was the strong sense of community and close knit friendships many found. I am glad to say that that I did find these things, and so much more. I found a home made up of some of the most brilliant and most unique people I have ever met. Being in an honors program creates a college experience unlike any other and creates some universal truths that really only an honors student can fully understand.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?
