People say that saving lives leads to overpopulation because life saved means more population on the earth, causing overpopulation. But the fact is that saving lives would eventually help control population.
According to research data, the birth rate of the least developed country is 4.3, while the more developed country has a birth rate of 1.7. In the meantime, the annual population growth rate in Sub-Saharan Africa is 2.7% while the U.S. population has a 0.7% growth rate. The statistics show that the higher death rate, the higher the birthrate. Yet, when people know they their children will survive, they would choose to have fewer children.
Therefore, the key factor to control the overgrowing population is to save more lives and to reduce poverty. As Bill Gates says, "The key thing you can do to reduce population growth is actually improving health".
How can you actually help to save the poor and save the planet then? Simply byy letting your Congress Leaders know you support the poverty reduction bills such as Reach Every Mother and Child Act. Or spreading out the words and breaking the myth.
