Savings hacks for a college trip or an adult spring break. You're welcome.
1. Choose Airbnb over a hotel.
If you're not familiar, AirBnB came in a couple of years ago and dominated the "crash on someone's couch" market.
Although Airbnb rooms are in high demand among holidays, it’s worth checking into. One advantage is that you can rent out an entire house to accommodate larger groups of friends. A penthouse for five with a pool and free breakfast?
The possibilities!
2. Plan meals ahead using vouchers or gift cards.
Using vouchers or gift cards can reduce dining costs. If you're road tripping and looking for deals on chain restaurants, I would suggest Raise.com. Their collection of discounted gift cards can add up to significant savings. Even though you are saving up front by buying a discounted gift card, Raise.com has coupon codes from time to time that can get you saving even more.
3. Use Groupon for day activities and excursions.
Do not sleep on Groupon! You'll save so much money on event tickets, concerts, and tourist spots. If you know the city your visiting, make reservations to use your Groupon ahead of time, in the event, you can't jump in on a spur-of-the-moment deal. (Tip: Don’t forget to read the fine print).
And don't forget the Spa treatments! Say you aren't traveling, and want a spa discount? This would be the perfect way to relax during your break
4. Look for student/alumni discounts.
If you’re staying local, there’s no shame in pulling out your student ID card for discounts. As you may know, many restaurants, dance clubs, and other public places offer a discounted rate to students or alumni. If you are traveling, bring your University of “x” shirt and don’t be afraid to ask if there are any discounts available. One small tip: websites like Unidays have a full universe of student discount offerings from different sites online business that has student discounts. It wouldn't hurt to see if any of these purchases could help with vacay costs.
5. Plan parking in advance.
Have you heard of services like Parking Panda that let you "park" in advance? This is a time and money-saving tactic. I am not promising that you’ll get a discount on parking, especially if in a big city, but wouldn’t you like pay ahead instead of driving in circles and settling for an expensive, last-minute spot? It worth it to relax, and drive right to a spot that’s been reserved just for you!
Saving money on vacation takes more planning, but its worth the trouble. The above techniques are likely to cut your travel costs in half. If you have any savings hacks other than the ones above, leave a comment below.
Be safe and have a nice time!
