Catch me in the middle of Wednesday after back-to-back classes from 9am-4pm and ask if I want to make plans Friday. I will probably respond back with a less than attractive frown face. Whether you are the type of person that always says “yes” to adding more to your already full plate or you lay low and just do what is needed sometimes the weekends are needed to re-coop.
For some being busy is a distractor, it distracts us from tasks that we ‘should’ be doing. Perhaps it allows us to have an escape almost in our already fairly scheduled lives. My friends would tell you, I am the worst and sometimes the best with making plans.
The week is scheduled out at an hourly rate, which gets to be very exhausting when Friday rolls around. It is to the point where if someone asks me to tailgate with them on Saturday, I am resistant to commit to those plans because I know that is the one day of the weekend that I could have to myself. Sundays are always the full homework day, dreaded by most college students. Maybe a must needed Netflix binge of Riverdale will occupy my day all Saturday.
Maybe I will run into the most amazing carnival in the center of town or decided to rearrange my whole room in an attempt to reorganize my life? Who knows! The week is so busy, I think its normal and healthy to have a “go with the flow” sort of weekend so you have a chance to breathe and be you. For me that means listening to Jonas brothers on repeat, wearing my cheetah print robe.
I thought that crossing different organizations that I was involved with would provide me with more free time, for some reason all that it provided me with was a desire to do more and to be more. The answer might not be to remove these aspects completely from your life but maybe to take it with a grain of salt.
From Monday to Friday though, get involved! Wear your bathing suit to class and go down that water slide that is sitting on the mall. Go to a random costume party on a Wednesday night and hit up the gym at 10 pm just because you are planning to eat dessert afterward. It’s those moments that you’ll remember and it will help the week go a little bit faster.
Once Friday rolls around, you're one day away from your day--Saturday!
