The only thing Donald Trump has made great again is Saturday Night Live. In recent years, Saturday Night Live had been on the decline. However, in the strangest election in quite some time, the sketch comedy show has been thriving since a billionaire reality tv show host entered the race for the presidency. However, since Donald Trump has been elected the show has been making fun of the President and those who are part of his staff.
Alec Baldwin as President Donald Trump
Alec Baldwin, known for quirky and witty comedy has been acting as President Trump frequently on Saturday Night Live. Not only has he been looking like him, but his voice and choice of words has been spot on. Expect to see more of President Trump on Saturday Night Live.
Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer
Yes, a woman is playing a man on tv. No, I don't think it's a bad idea. Saturday Night Live is known for pushing the envelope and it didn't matter who was the President they have always pushed boundaries. McCarthy does a great impression of Spicer and practically takes the words right out of his mouth. Look for McCarthy to step up in a big way and continue to kill the game when it comes to playing Sean Spicer.
Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton & Elizabeth Warren
For quite some time now Kate McKinnon has been playing Hillary Clinton on Saturday Night Live. However, Secretary Clinton has been in the shadows since her loss to Trump so McKinnon has stepped up into the role of Senator Elizabeth Warren. This new role became relevant after Senator Mitch McConnell silenced Senator Warren on the floor of the Senate and now Saturday Night Live is using their talented actress to push the progressive Democrat into the spotlight.
Larry David as Bernie Sanders
When the first sketch of Larry David as Bernie Sanders hit the internet exploded. David did a fantastic job as the Senator from Vermont saying things that only Bernie would bring up. Larry David has been a comedy icon for years and revitalized Saturday Night Live with his spot-on impersonation.
Beck Bennett as Vladimir Putin
As intelligence agencies have been gathering data from the presidential election, there may be ties to the Trump cabinet from Russia and may have had an impact on the election. However, nothing has been confirmed. Nevertheless, Beck Bennett has had the opportunity to play Putin on a number of occasions and pulls it off! He says and does exactly what you'd expect from Putin in a satirical kind of way. Look for Bennett to play Putin on a weekly basis.
The cast of Saturday Night Live has tackled debates and "interviews" with political figures. Some feel as though the show has gone overboard and too far when it comes to making fun of politicians, especially Republicans. On the flip side, who is their target audience? Young liberals who find sketch comedy funny. Additionally, it is interesting how the conservatives call liberals "Snowflakes" for being offended when they are easily offended by a television show.... Just food for thought, but that's a whole other article.
