Saturday Night Live: Back and Better Than Ever

Live from New York, the best show to have graced this Earth is BACK!

Saturday Night Live: Back and Better Than Ever

Well, it's that time again (and just in time for all of the election hype, might I add) that the BEST variety show on television for the 42nd year in a row is back! Yep, I'm talking about "Saturday Night Live." With smoke show host, Margot Robbie who starred in the summer blockbuster hit "Suicide Squad," two new cast members, Mikey Day and Mellisa Villasenor, and a killer musical act, The Weeknd, the show couldn't have gone any better.

Of course, with the presidential debate occurring just days before the season premiere, the theme of the episode was basically reduced to the two presidential candidates, Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump. From Hilary's interesting shoulder movements and miraculous recovery from pneumonia to Trump's constant interrupting and sly remarks, one would say that Kate McKinnon and Alec Baldwin NAILED IT.

Moving on to the opening monologue, which AGAIN poked fun at the presidential debate when she decided to fact-check every line she said. Pretty funny stuff, although, the cast is what made it funny...not Margot. But, I mean whatever, because she's hot and from Australia. Unreal accent, Margot. Can I have it? Let me know.

The skits were hilarious, as expected for the premiere episode, but the one that really grabbed readers was the digital short titled: "The Librarian." This started out like any other boy's fantasy and then just started getting really, REALLY weird--but obviously, hilarious. Margot Robbie played the hot librarian that Bobby Moynihan was drooling over as he was trying to study in the library. The cliché fantasy begins to play out and the librarian starts to let her hair down. Before we know it, her hair is completely falling out and it turns out she is some bizarre creature.

Classic, SNL am I right? I mean how do they think up these crazy skits? Sit in a room and consume illegal substances until they come up with the most freakish idea they can. Sounds about right to me.

My MOST favorite part of Saturday Night Live to date has got to be the Weekend Update with Colin Jost and Michael Che, both hilarious choices for anchor the past couple years. Of course, no one can EVER replace Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, or Amy and Seth Meyers. Incredible duos, huge shoes to fill.

Highlight of the show

Everyone who watched last Saturday's premiere knows that the best like of the episode was during the "Weeknd Update." The show jumps to footage of the musical guest sitting, and as he turns to the camera says "I got a hair cut." Brilliant. Truly, brilliant. Simple and comedic.

Well, that sums up the first episode of "Saturday Night Live" for you! Tune in next week for more of my completely unbiased opinion on the best live TV programming to air every weekend. Yes, that includes sports. *Cue the eye roll

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
