Saturday Night Lights—Even For A D3 School

We may not have stands filled with thousands of people but we support our team just as much as you do.

Saturday Night Lights—Even For A D3 School

For Cornell College in Mount Vernon Iowa, football is one of the most exciting events on the weekend in the fall. Although the stands can only be filled with hundreds rather than thousands, our small town school community still goes out and supports our wonderful Rams! As someone who was a cheerleader all throughout high school and the beginning of college, football will forever be one of my favorite past times.

The beginning of the season is always the best because not only does it mean the first games but it also means that everyone is back to campus. You can look forward to the weekends because you know there is probably a game—away or at home. Everyone begins to talk about the big game against our rival school and then how close homecoming is.

For a small school, we treat our homecoming as not only the biggest game of the year but a reason for our family, friends, and alumni to join us. Our football team prepares for the field as everyone else prepares for the events that are happening before and after the game—which we always will hope is a big win.

As the season begins, the families and fans that go to all of the games cheer in the crowd for the team. With a win or lose, all of us are just as proud as we were before the game began no matter what the outcome may have been.

Even though there aren't thousands of people in our stands or millions of people watching our team on television, we adore them just as much as any big school adores their own.

So to our football players here at Cornell, we appreciate you and are always here to cheer you on! Our families and friends look forward to your games this fall—the best way to bring in a new academic year!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

From sea to shining sea, the United States was uniquely positioned for an incredible Aurora Borealis display on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, going into Friday, Oct. 11.

It was the second time this year after an historic geomagnetic storm in May 2024. Those Northern Lights were visible in Europe and North America, just like this latest rendition.
