This past Wednesday, presidential candidate Donald Trump was in the Charleston, South Carolina area to campaign for the South Carolina primary. As a student with a passion for television and media (and a few connections) I somehow ended up getting into Donald Trump’s latest interview with "Morning Joe" hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. Now, I’m not someone who lives and breathes politics, but I wasn’t about to turn down the opportunity to see America’s most talked about presidential candidate in person. As a matter of fact, I was actually pretty pumped about it.
Upon getting into the studio, I found out I was about to sit less than 10 feet away from the Trump himself. And, not only that but I found out I would be on camera the entire time. Yes, the entire program. My face would be directly behind one of the most talked about candidates in America on national television for an entire hour. And the experience did not disappoint.
Yes, that’s me. Right there behind Trump’s right shoulder. So, 15 minutes of fame? I think so.
Snarky comments, insults towards Jeb Bush and President Barack Obama, and throwing tons of shade were only a few of the things I witnessed during the interview. Of course, Trump talked about how he would "Make America Great Again" (how he would attempt to do so) and continued insulting Jeb Bush some more. Oh, and he nailed Ted Cruz a few times for good measure. But really, were any of us surprised?
Despite being told not to have my phone out the entire time in the studio, I was able to sneak a few pictures during commercial breaks. Perhaps the greatest moment was when the Trump had to have more gel put into his hair. This was mainly an incredible moment because I didn’t even know the Trump had enough hair to have gel sprayed into it. But hey, what do I know?
Before I could properly take a selfie picture with Donald Trump in the background, I was yelled at by an MSNBC producer who proceeded to look angrier the closer he walked towards me. Even though I got yelled at, it was low-key still one of the best moments of my day. My Snapchat story was still fire and I felt famous by association.
In case you were wondering, the glowing orb behind me is Donald Trump’s head.
As election season is in full swing, the American people can only hope that the right person will be elected for the job. Is the country hoping to Make America Great Again? Or are the American people feeling the Bern? Are most Americans standing with Hillary? Or is the country ready for a new American century with Marco Rubio? Do they hope to put Ted Cruz in the White House? Looks like only time will tell.
Happy campaigning season, everyone.
