Artwork can come in many forms while few can master this one. This art form takes a great amount of skill and time, as the medium is especially difficult for one to shape and manipulate. I'm talking about the beauty and craftsmanship of sand sculptures.
Sand sculpting is one of my absolute favorite forms of art. The way the artists must know the medium to a tee is astounding. One tiny mistake of the hand, or one gust of wind, and the piece is ruined! At any given time the sand might give out and the structure would crumble to the ground.
With the sand, anything is possible. You can create the most amazing pieces of art with just a few simple tools: sand, water, and a shovel. The sand will hold its own, working like tiny building blocks holding each other up.
Something that especially intrigues me, is that you can see the starting elements and the finished product side by side further enriching the piece by this juxtaposition. This is what makes this form of art truly special. There is none other like it in which you can see something come from nothing so clearly.
Some day I hope to have the pleasure of viewing this process in person. The way the artist is able to mold the sand and create intricate pieces out of something so abundant yet fragile. I would love to be able to have a go at it some time.
Creating art with this medium is awe inspiring to whoever sees it. We often do not consider the amount of time it takes for these amazing pieces to be shone to the world. Many days and days are spent making the pieces look their best and speak for themselves.
In my opinion, creating sand sculptures is one of the lesser though of art forms; but it is one of the most impactful. We should all appreciate the time and effort it takes to create one of these fabulous pieces of art.
