You Know You Went To San Pasqual High School If...

Every high school graduate will always hold a special place in their heart for their high school -- the graduates of San Pasqual High School in Escondido, Calif. especially. While we may have been known as the snobby rich kids of Escondido, we sure did know how to have a good time and make the best of our high school years. At SP, we certainly had some interesting memories. Here are some things that every SP graduate knows to be true.

You knew the security guards by name.

Chances are, they probably knew yours too. If you were lucky enough, they would give you a ride around campus to your next class. So befriending Johnny and Santos was not a bad idea.

You had to kick your locker to actually get it to open.

You most likely got stuck with the same locker for all four years. Lucky for you, your locker either had to be pulled on multiple times to open, or it just never locked at all. At least by senior year you knew exactly how many times it took to yank it open.

All your Spirit Day pictures were taken in front of those pesky, blue lockers.

We all knew that’s where the best lighting was, so the best candid shots were always taken there.

Half the kids in your grade are probably Instagram or Tumblr famous.

You refuse to follow them on social media because you know you’ll see all their posts on your Instagram or Twitter timeline, Pinterest, or Tumblr. You can’t help but be jealous of their perfect lives though. Let’s be real, you're probably still Instagram-stalking them even after you've graduated.

You participated in AP Boot Camp and know who Mr. Clifford is.

He probably scared the sh*t out of you on the first day in his full-camo get-up, but you learned to love his sarcastic comments and clever teaching style.

You joined in on yelling profanities in Spanish from the rowdy crowd at football games.

Freshman year you didn't know what they meant so you just joined in because that’s what everyone else was doing. By the time you were a senior though, you were the one starting those chants. (After making sure Mr. Clifford was not there of course.)

The last week of Junior year was spent fighting to secure your table for the upcoming year on the Senior lawn.

The seniors all got out a week early, so that meant one week to claim your spot and get a sneak peek at what your next year was going to be like.

You dreaded pep rallies because it felt like you were going to die of heatstroke every time there were more than five people shoved into the gym.

We all wanted to get rowdy…but when you're packed like sardines in a room with no air conditioning, it was a tad difficult to yell chants to the freshmen with paint dripping down your face.

At pep rallies, everyone got more excited for the dance team than the cheer team.

Yes, our cheerleaders pumped us up, but our dance team that won multiple National Championships really knew how to get the crowd going. Especially when they added in a student vs. teachers dance-off.

You spent the last day of the school year at Moonlight Beach.

Just when you thought you didn't have to see anyone from your classes for a whole three months, you ran into just about every person you had spent the school year avoiding at the beach.

And of course, you had better school spirit than Escondido High and Orange Glen.

If there’s one thing we loved, it was being spirited and showing our support for our Fighting Eagles.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
