San Marcos, Texas. There's so much to say about this small, but large city. I've been a San Martian for two and a half years now and I can honestly say it is one of the best places to live. Like any city, there are many reasons that make San Marcos the perfect location to live or visit.

Living in the hill country is such a blessing.

We live in a gorgeous area surrounded by so much natural beauty. Sometimes it's easy to forget about how lucky we are to have the opportunity to go hiking at Purgatory Creek, canoeing on the river, or adventure around the city for many other activities.

San Marcos is located between two of the best cities in Texas.

We are right in the middle of San Antonio and Austin, Texas. Whether you want to make a day trip to Austin to visit the 360 Bridge or to San Antonio for the boardwalk, it's only a 30-minute trip to each city. We're surrounded by really great places and are provided with many different activities to partake in.

Texas State, duh.

Although Texas State University is not one of the biggest colleges in Texas, we sure do now how to make it one of the best universities to attend. As a college junior, I've had some amazing experiences while attending this school. Texas State is filled with a wide variety of students, organizations, and activities that make it a great place to attend. Even though the stereotype is that all we do is party, I've been able to meet so many people who are here to focus more on school and less on partying.

Our strong community keeps us passionate about our city.

When we had a huge flood in 2015, the entire San Marcos community came together to help rebuild the city. Students and organizations from Texas State joined forces with San Marcos residents to build houses, donated money to help those who lost the homes, and especially prayed for the people that lost family members or loved ones. It really showed just how amazing this community is, and I'm so proud of everyone for contributing their time and love for the cause. No matter what happens in our city, it's nice to know that there's a great group of people that I can rely on when I need it.

San Marcos is full of so many things to do.

It's hard to get bored in San Marcos. There are so many activities to do and places to visit. You can go bar hopping at the Square, tan at Sewell Park, tube on the river, hike at different parks, play sand volleyball, go to the Wonder World amusement park, or just find a spot to sit and enjoy the view. We have many amazing restaurants located throughout the city, or you can even drive to New Braunfels to eat at the Gristmill.

Overall, living in San Marcos, from my experience, is one of the best possible places to live. There are so many different things that I believe everyone should experience at least once in their life. I'm proud to be able to call San Marcos my home.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
