Same sex marriage is growing legally throughout the world and currently a vote is process for Australia as they move from recognition of partners to legal status of same sex marriage. Other large super powers like the United States have only recently passed same sex marriage within the last 5-10 years. While there are other countries such as Netherlands that legalized same sex marriage in 2000.
Australia is putting this up for a vote after a long time of advocating and fighting for equal rights in the LGBTQ community. Even though same sex marriage approval has a very high acceptance rate amongst Australians, there is fear that this vote will not work, reported by CNN. What is different in Australia then many same sex decisions around the world is that every one must vote on the legislation of same sex marriage. It is a requirement for every citizen in Australia and thats why it is a two month process. The hope is that this will reflect the whole population on issues that pertain to everyone.
My personal hope is that this legislation will go through and we will see rights improve for LGBTQ members of Australia. Along with creating a more inclusive world that spreads love instead of hate.
