Same Product Different Price: Men vs. Women

Why don't women's pants have big pockets?

I just recently went shopping at my local Walmart for some toiletries. While browsing through razors and shampoo I noticed something. Men’s products were either cheaper, or better than the women’s products.

For instance, razors were similar prices, but honestly, the men’s razor is sharper than the women’s one. I started to realize that there was something I didn’t understand about this. For me, it’s that the same item is being marketed towards a gender, and at different prices, when there are almost no differences.

Let’s step into the men’s department. When I go to a store I find that things like loose sweaters or flannels are better in the men’s section. Usually, it is that they are a thicker material, or I like the way they look. I don’t mind buying things out of the men’s section. I would just like to have the same quality in the women’s section.

The price difference is something I found interesting. Maybe it has to do with the material. Maybe I am just being nice and it’s because one is for men and the other is for women. When I look at a plain shirt I notice that the men’s are much less expensive. Of course, it is cut differently, but the amount of material and even the brand is the same.

This is why I don’t understand the price difference. The items are basically the same, but the prices are different? Why?

The last thing that really grinds my gears is pants. Pockets actually. Why do my pants have such tiny pockets? Sometimes when I leave all I need are my keys, phone, license, and a little cash. I can’t even put my keys in my pocket.

Men’s pants are designed so they don’t have to carry around a bag. I’m not saying I don’t like purses, but sometimes it is a bit of an inconvenience. When I am somewhere crowded, or where I might have to put my purse down, I am always afraid that I’m going to misplace it. I have always wondered why women’s pockets are not a little bigger. Why does that seem like a good idea?

I have learned from my lifetime as a woman that a lot of products are geared towards women, and the prices are even heightened. Has anyone else heard about the pens “for her”? It’s a real thing it was even on Ellen.

Products are marketed as “Women” products, and that causes them to change in price difference? I just don’t understand, and I probably never will. I will never be able to comprehend spending more money on deodorant, sweaters, shirts, and pants without pockets!

For now, I’ll end by saying there is room for equality in the clothing stores.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
