Salsa In The Park: Boston And Cuba's Finest Dance Event

Salsa in The Park at MetaMovements is dedicated to helping the Greater Boston and Cuban communities prosper. At Salsa In The Park events, people can enjoy dancing to salsa, bachata, and cubanizate related dance. SITP offers ways of becoming healthier, including dancing, eating nutritious foods like healthy granola and grain-oriented snacks, and staying hydrated. Here are the benefits of Salsa in The Park.

1. Dance movement therapy

Dance movement therapy is effective at improving body image, self-esteem, stress, chronic pain, focus and communication skills. It can improve the body’s circulatory and respiratory systems. Dance Movement Therapy is proven to help people with disabilities, people with amputations, people with heart disease, cancer patients and people with various ailments.

2. Reduced neighborhood crime

The original idea of SITP was a project meant to reduce violence in the neighborhood. Dance is a form of stress relief and when people are happier and less stressed, they are more likely to have reduced urge to engage in violent activity. Along with that, being busy with the arts and performance causes less of a need to engage in violent crime.

3. Good physical health

Doing Salsa for 30 minutes can help burn 214 calories. Salsa in the Park is typically a three-hour long event, so many calories can be burned. If people are not necessarily looking for weight loss, dancing salsa can also significantly improve happiness, strength, and stamina.

4. Environmental awareness

At SITP, people are dedicated to raising awareness about environmental causes. At events, people are recommended to bring their own water bottles to help reduce the need to use plastic cups. Metallic water bottles are also sold at events. We have a group of young entrepreneurs who sell items such as t-shirts along with these water bottles, if interested.

5. Social and social justice awareness

People at SITP are very socially involved. Dance choreography, spoken word performances, and song often are related to social issues. Interpretative dances, poetry and rap have been used in the past in order to discuss issues such as racism, feminism, and Cuban and Latin culture.

6. Cuba itself

MetaMovements Latin Dance Company allows people to travel to Cuba to get a unique cultural experience and transfer ideas from SITP Boston into Cuba.

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
