You Might Be From Upstate New York If...

If you live near the Canadian border, are surrounded by a fair share of farms, and can name most of the people from your high school, you're probably an Upstate New Yorker.

1. There are more cows than people.

A typical drive through your town consists of big pastures, many farms, and lots and lots of cows.

2. You can name almost everyone from your high school.

Love 'em or hate 'em, you know you can name a majority of people from your high school.

3. You live close to the Canadian border.

This means you probably have made the short trip across the border more than a few times, especially if you're of age to drink in Canada (18).

4. In fact, you've been told once or twice that you even sound kind of Canadian.

This is offensive and obviously wrong. Whoever is making these comments needs to stop. Seriously.

5. At least four months of the year, there's snow.

This means you spend a lot of time skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, shoveling, and complaining. When it gets to March, April, and sometimes even May, you are completely done and ready for some warm weather.

6. You've had your fair share of snow days.

If the constant snow is good for nothing else, you at least know that you'll have a snow day or two at school or work to get you through the long winter.

7. No one has heard of your hometown.

When people ask where you're from, you tell them a general area or a nearby (and bigger) town because you know that no one will recognize the name of your hometown.

8. You get seriously annoyed when someone asks if you're from New York City.

New York is a pretty big state, and it doesn't just consist of New York City...

9. Your town is full of camouflage-clad people.

This means at least a few people wore camouflage tuxes and gowns to your high school prom. The typical wardrobe for many people in your area includes tons of camouflage, even sometimes of the pink variety.

10. Your Facebook feed often features images of dead animals.

You've grown accustomed to seeing images of deer carcasses on your news feed pretty regularly as a majority of your town hunts. This is probably why so many people wear camouflage all the time.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Because no one ever really leaves.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
