The NBA has had its hands full of talent in the last ten years; however the old quote always comes back around: "When your time comes, it comes." Big time players such as Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and soon Dirk Nowitzki have left the NBA; with the players leaving, this leaves the new veterans of the NBA in the hands of players such as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul. With that being said, the young and new talent surges up quickly, and takes over the NBA with remarkable numbers. His name? Russell Westbrook.
Russell Westbrook has always been able to fill up the stat-sheet. The problem was that he had to share the wealth with NBA superstar Kevin Durant, who took his talents to the Golden State Warriors. Since the departure, Westbrook has shattered hall of fame records like it's his day job, and it doesn't look like he will be stopping anytime soon.
The superstar is the second player in NBA history to average 31.2 PPG, 9.1 RPG, and 10.3 APG in a calendar month playing at least 10 games. Also, in the last 50 years, the only two players to have had averaged 33 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists over a 10 game span were Michael Jordan and Russell Westbrook. What's comical about this fact is that this was during the 2014-2015 season; now Westbrook has the team to himself.
Last season Russell finished the season with 18 triple doubles. This year he has 11...IN 22 GAMES!! He has recently passed the star of this era, LeBron James, in all time triple doubles with 48; now he is on pace to beat Oscar Robertson's record for triple doubles in one season. This season, he is averaging 31 PPG, 11 APG, and 11 RPG--remarkable numbers.
No one expected OKC to be a playoff team after losing Durant and the defensive fanatic Serge Ibaka. The Thunder are currently 14-8, and is 6th in the western conference standings. Russell Westbrook is proving every sports analyst wrong and is putting up hall of fame numbers. If he can stay healthy and doesn't get injured, don't be surprised if he completes the most dominate single season in NBA history.
