1. The Bachelor:

Okay, how is this not the most obvious comparison?? many girls fighting for one sorority (maybe multiple sororities). There are rounds of cuts to get through, with every day starting and ending in tears. You spend 15 min making small talk, and that one conversation can effect whether you end up back at the sorority the next day. You will also get interrupted a LOT during rush week, but that means meeting more people so its a good thing. I love this show but I hope the closest I will ever get to it is rush week.

2. The ASPCA commercial

Preference Day is filled with a lot of tears, but mostly happy ones. The day leaves you with a big decision, and makes you wish that you could join every sorority on campus, much like an ASPCA commercial. Every time I see one of those commercials I want to adopt every dog in the world, but sadly thats not possible for a dorm/budget living college kid like me.

3. The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

Every day is a fashion show the week of rush, but it's also a week full of comparisons and self-image struggles. It reminded me a whole lot like watching the VS Fashion show, and the body image comparing I do to the models EVERY YEAR. I mean, Kendall Jenner is a BABE. The only difference is I would not recommend strutting around the different houses in just your underwear, probably not a good idea.

4. Say Yes to the Dress

Imagine it being Say Yes to the Sorority and there you have it. Kleinfeld tries to help these excited brides to be find the perfect dress. and its "one of the biggest decisions they will ever make", and when you compare Kleinfeld to Panhellenic, the passion behind rush week is found. The overall goal of the week is to find you that one sorority that is once again a major decision in your life, maybe not the most important, but it plays a part.

5. Gossip Girl

The idea of an upper east side is so similar to the idea of being in a sorority. The entire semester leading up to recruitment there were rumors, pictures, blacklistings, and more good ole girl drama that played an effect on the sororities girls joined. There were serena van der woodsens, and jenny humphreys trying to tear each other away from the "upper east side" lifestyle. Rush week brings out the best in everyone.

All in all Rush Week ended up being one of the best weeks of my life, and its fun to look back and make fun of how much we all cared about how we looked compared to the girl next to us. In the end, you end up where you are meant to be, and that girl you compared yourself to could become one of your favorite new sisters. If you haven't gone through recruitment week, don't be scared!! It is a great week, and make sure to stay healthy because EVERYONE gets sick. Also, don't forgot that you are LOVED by all, and you were created in HIS image.

Sic 'Em Bears and throw what you know!!!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
