What is your body size? 00? 0? XL? Maternity?
Gone are the days when fashion designers hired only the zero figure models for their shows. Only the skinny models were titled “perfect” for the limelight. It's the twenty-first century after all, and as Yves Saint Laurent rightly said,
“Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.”
Prom dresses, cocktail dresses, or baby shower dresses, every lady needs an outfit for some occasion or another. But, it’s not only the apparel that is important or how elegantly beautiful you will look in that dress. Every lady shares a relationship with her clothes and wardrobe. It’s the moment of happiness, confidence, or satisfaction that a dress brings along with it.
Everyone deserves to have that moment, and the runway is giving it.
Breaking the cliché, fashion designers are showcasing the real life models.
In 2003, a model with baby bump walked down the ramp for during the Cibeles Fashion Week in Madrid. And things have changed since then.
Recently, in 2015, Italian actress Bianca Balti walked the runway for Dolce & Gabbana at Women Fall/ Winter 2015/16 Milan’s Fashion Week with a baby bump.
Canadian model Winnie Harlow who suffers from vitiligo proudly walked down for Spanish Fashion Label Desigual.
FTL Moda’s AW15 show featured disabled models, changing the face of fashion completely.
And this year, for the first time in India, in Lakme Fashion Week April 2016, Carol Gracias, a popular Indian super model walked down the ramp for designer Gaurang Shah.
And the media went bonkers, when the top Indian actress Kareena Kapoor Khan (mom-to-be) became showstopper for Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s bridal wear collection at the grand finale of Lakme Fashion week Winter/Festive 2016.
Fashion industry, we are proud of you for being realistic. What’s in store for 2017?
