Last year I did what I never thought I would do: run a full marathon. For anyone who's run a marathon I'm sure they would agree, it can be incredibly awful. You have moments of wanting to quit, peel off your shoes and drive through McDonalds for a Big Mac and large fry. But it's also one of the best feelings you'll ever have because at every mile you face fears, doubts, and the temptation to quit.
After watching the Office last night, I realized like almost everything else in life, running a marathon can be summed up in about fifteen Office gifs. So here's my attempt.
Trying not to stress out the day before, but having small moments of panic when you realize what you've signed yourself up for.
Watching everyone line up to start, and suddenly wanting to back out.
When you have to walk after mile ten and your running partner keeps going.
When your mind goes blank and you try to block out the pain in your side but you start running again.
The sweet moment when you catch up with your running partner.
Realizing you reached the end of your playlist and you have eight miles to go.
But then your favorite song comes on again.
And then your shoe comes untied and you have to decide between losing your rhythm or getting slapped in the ankle for the next seven miles.
But you make it to a water station.
And then you turn the corner and your mom and dad are there to cheer you on.
And suddenly you have a burst of energy. Look ma!
Sweet Jesus, you realize you only have one mile left.
So you start planning the rest of your day.
And FINALLY you cross that sweet finish line.
You trained for months, felt like giving up the whole way but you did it! You get a sweet t-shirt and the best nap of your life. And you get to know that you're tougher than you thought and can honestly accomplish whatever you set your mind to.
