Running into an ex is awkward and uncomfortable most of the time. Most of the time, you avoid eye contact, turn the other way, or pray to God they don't notice you. However, sometimes running into an ex is a little like this:
You've just walked into the grocery store and she's standing in aisle three picking out cereal with her new girlfriend.
You're studying in the library like you do every Wednesday, and he walks in holding hands with his new boyfriend.
You're sitting at a stop light and a car rolls up beside you. You take a glance over and they're laughing with their new lover.
Your first thought is...
Her new girlfriend is so ugly.
His new boyfriend is fat.
Their new lover has no style.
Then you begin to remember...
You once thought you were ugly and she thought you were beautiful.
You thought you were fat, but he thought you were the sun.
You had no style at one point, but they loved you.
That's when your mind begins to montage every memory.
You remember the inside jokes, the romantic dates, the song-filled car rides, the late night conversations when neither of you could sleep.
As that montage comes to a close it hits you just like you'd imagine getting slapped in the face with a brick, they don't belong to you anymore.
Their coffee order has changed.
He has a beard now.
She's dyed her hair blonde.
By the time this realization sets in your spiraling back down to earth and you notice, you've been staring. They've noticed too.
She walks to another aisle looking for anything but cereal.
He turns around and leaves the library in search of somewhere else to study.
They light turns green and they speed off at 80 miles an hour.
Running into an ex reminds you that nothing lasts forever, people do change, and you're still not over them.
